Wuxi, located at the southern part of Jiangsu Province and in the middle of Yangtze River Delta, is an important economic city and the hub of communications in China. It covers a total area of 4788 square kilometers, among which the downtown area is 1622 square kilometers. It holds a total population of 4528.4 thousand, among which downtown population is about 2284.9 thousand. It has the jurisdiction of Jiangyin, Yixing cities and 7 districts ( including Xishan, Huishan, Binhu, Chong’an, Nanchang, Beitang, WND).

Wuxi, away from Shanghai 127 square kilometers in the East, bordering on Suzhou; next to Taihu Lake, the third fresh water lake, facing Zhejiang Province in the South; away from Nanjing 183 square kilometers in the West, bordering Chanzhou; close to Yangtze River in the North, neighboring Zhang Jia Gang Port. Wuxi has a convenient transportation, sea, land and air, with Huning Railway spanning across east and west, Jinghang Great Canal running through north and south.

Wuxi is one of national 15 economic cities and 10 prominent tourist cities. By the year 2006, the whole industries in Wuxi achieved RMB196.87 billion of added-value the whole year, a year-on-year increase of 15.3%. By the year 2007, industrial total production value within the statistics of the whole city was RMB 191.499 billion, an increase of 29.1%. In the book 2005 City Competitiveness Blue Paper, Wuxi ranked the 8th , while in the magazine of Forbes, among the 2006 China’s Best Commercial City, Wuxi ranked the 4th.

At the new century, Wuxi has grown into China’s important Economic City, China’s Prominent Tourist City, National Advanced Clean City, National Garden City, National Environment Protection Model City, National Civilized City and one of China’s first accomplishing the well-off regions.
